Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park
As anyone can see from driving in the High Country, cycling is a very popular sport for all ages. Though, most forget that mountain biking is just as fun and there are huge trails and attractions all over, such as Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park.
Established in 2009, the Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park settled on 185 acres and received grants from the Watauga County Tourism Development Authority to build 6-8 different terrain paths, a playgound, shelters, and picnic area. The park has taken some time to finish, but is one of the largest and highest recommended parks in the Blue Ridge. With an elevation range of 3,377-4,032 feet, all the trails have varying difficulties and offer an experience you can’t find elsewhere.
Being two of the top collegiate cycling teams in the country, Lees-McRae and Appalachian students find home in training at the Rocky Knob Mountain Bike Park, and often volunteer and hold events to keep the trails in good condition. Other local shops such as Boone Bike and Touring, and Magic Cycles offer rentals and guided trips for the park, making it a full community venture.
If you’re looking for a summertime activity, consider going biking. The park is off 421 S, .7 miles past Bamboo Road.
